We had a small turnout for our October match last weekend but the competition was tight. Chris Hymen took top honors in the modern military category with a score of 278-4X and Chris Kurek took top honors in the Garand match with a score of 264-0X. For a full listing of scores, see below.

If you take a close look at the match results below, you'll notice a couple of interesting things. First of all, you'll see that we had nine shooters on Saturday, and given all the rain and nasty weather we've had lately, that was a great turnout. We were expecting the range to be very muddy, but as it turned out, it wasn't bad at all.

Next, and more importantly, you'll see that the scores between first and second place are separated by exactly 1 X. If you've ever looked at the SR-1 targets we use, you know that the X-ring is not much bigger than a quarter, so that is not an easy shot at 100 yards with an M1 Garand. So congratulations go to Chris Hymen for his score of 278.04 to win the GSM category.

Top marks in the Outlaw class were taken by the elder Valletta shooting 363-10X. A full listing of results can be found below.

We were able to get in our second match of the season last weekend with Dewey Hales taking top honors with the Garand shooting 287-6X. Jason Cisarano took top honors in the As-Issued Modern Military category with a score of 283-1X and Mark Valletta took home gold in the Unlimited Modern Military category with a score of 273-4X. We were finally able to get our first match of the season in on June 20. It was a bittersweet match as we said hello to everyone, commemorated one of the founders of DEGS, John Wallace, and said goodbye to Richard Martinez who is transferring to Quantico as he furthers his Marine Corps career.

Our overall match winner was Joe McMillian who turned in an impressive 289-4X. His score surpassed all other competitors with the Garand as he earned the 2020 John Wallace memorial cup. Jason Cisarano turned in the high score in the as-issued modern military category with 273-3X. Dewey Hales took top honors in the unlimited modern military class with a 290-7X.
