Membership Info/How to Join

DEGS Shooters on the firing lineWhile it isn’t necessary to be a member of DEGS to participate in the monthly matches, membership does have its benefits. First of all, DEGS members are entitled to discounts on all DEGS matches. Members are also eligible for occasional special offers, like bulk .30-06 ammunition at discounted prices. And if you’re interested in purchasing a surplus rifle through the Civilian Marksmanship Program, membership in DEGS will fulfill part of the requirements.

And every year since its creation in 2009, DEGS has awarded an M1 Garand rifle to one of its members by random drawing. To qualify, you must be a member in good standing and participate in at least five matches during that calendar year.

More importantly, DEGS is a place where people with a common interest in the M1 Garand and other vintage rifles meet to share camaraderie and knowledge. Whether you’re a new shooter hoping to learn about the intricacies of Mr. Garand’s rifle or an old salt ready to share some of your hard-earned experience, there’s always an spot open for you on the firing line.

Joining DEGS is easy. According to the by-laws, membership is “open to any person who is of good character and reputation [who] agrees to abide by the Constitution and By-Laws of the DEGS.” There is no need to own a Garand when you join. In fact, many first-time shooters borrow a club loaner rifle at their first match before going on to purchase one from the CMP. Most people join at a DEGS match, where they can get acquainted with club members and organization.

To join, download a pdf of the DEGS membership form and bring it to the next match or contact us for mailing info.
