If you shoot in CMP matches, chances are you already know about the new marksmanship park built by the CMP in Alabama, near the Talladega Superspeedway. And chances are, you have thought about taking a trip down there, saying "one of these days" or "wouldn't it be nice." Well DEGS members Jeff Kinney and Clay Hallock made the pilgrimage and shared the photos with us.
A few choice features of this range:
- Electronic targets that score themselves-no more pit duty and more shooting time!
- LCD screens at each firing point that show point of impact
- Clubhouse that overlooks the 600-yard range
- Pro shop run by Creedmoor Armory
The park covers 500 acres and includes a 600-yard rifle range, a 100-yard multipurpose range, and a 50-yard pistol range, in addition to trap, sporting clays, and action pistol setups.
The CMP hosts shooting events at the range year-round, including the big "John C. Garand D-Day Anniversary Match" in early June to commemorate the Allied Forces landing at Normandy Beach in 1944. The event includes GSM matches, an M1 carbine match, EIC service rifle and pistol matches, a vintage sniper match, and more.
Wouldn't it be nice!
